This saga begins with the search for the car. We maintained
a watchful eye on all the usual places to find a donor car. Craig’s list, Ebay, and newspaper
classifieds. A few cars popped up that
we liked, but were gone by the time we got there or was not priced appropriately
for a race car. After a few months a Craig’s list deal came our way in the form
of a 1988 BMW 325is asking 1400 dollars.
We headed out to go kick the tires. Upon arrival the car was not in as good as shape
as we hoped. There was some rust on the
bottom of the doors, and overall the car was in rough form. We thought the car was solid enough to turn
in to a race car, but the price would have to come down – A LOT. The owner’s willingness to lower the price
well over half so fast should have been a warning to us, but we were too
excited about our awesome negotiating skills to care. 500 bucks and it was
ours.
Only later to find out that he should have been paying us to
take this car off his hands…… more to come.
